Cotton Industry Veteran Joins The Seam to Direct Operations, Projects

MEMPHIS, Tenn., June 3, 2020 – The Seam, a leading provider of commodities trading and food and agriculture software solutions, today announced the appointment of Bill Turner as Director of Project Management and Operations. Turner reports to Mark Pryor, Chief Executive Officer at The Seam.

“We are excited to have Bill on board our growing team, as we engage and expand our work in various agricultural sectors,” said Pryor. “Bill brings an incredible amount of experience and knowledge to the company, with more than 35 years in the cotton merchandising industry. We look forward to his continued success on behalf of our customers and industry partners.”

As Director of Project Management and Operations, Turner is responsible for supporting and enabling The Seam’s projects, programs and structured work efforts, including customer service. He also works in collaboration with the information technology and marketing teams to ensure alignment on deliverables and strengthen business development initiatives.

From ‘dirt to shirt’ — local tech tracks cotton’s origins to where it ends up

As consumers want to know more about the origin of products, a Memphis organization is using cutting-edge technology to uncover details about one of the Mid-South’s foundational crops: cotton.

In June of this year, The Seam, a provider of trading and technology services to agribusinesses, teamed up with the National Cotton Council — also Memphis based — to roll out a blockchain-based technology that will allow cotton to be traced back to the land where it was grown.

And, the technology can even give details on how the crop was produced.

“There’s an increased need for traceability and transparency in the supply chain,” said Mark Pryor, The Seam’s chairman and CEO. “And in cotton, the brands and the retailers — the Levis and the Brooks Brothers of the world — are demanding more traceable, transparent information throughout the supply chain.”

Event Recap: 2018 Sourcing USA Summit

Earlier this month, Mark Pryor, Chairman and CEO at The Seam, presented at the 2018 Sourcing USA Summit in Scottsdale, Arizona. More than 500 decision-makers within the global cotton industry gathered to hear about how blockchain technology is revolutionizing agriculture by providing transparency, security and immutability to commodity trading and management. The Summit was attended by the largest cotton customers in the world, representing 30 countries, merchants, cooperatives and agents in the industry.
